What This Move Is

A succession of single turns — related to ballet chaînés — where the lead propels the follow forward one rotation per step, often changing direction. Used to cover distance with flair or to relocate on the floor.

Key Points

  • Lead: Lead one turn per step in sequence; you can change direction by re-leading.
  • Follow: One turn at a time, travelling forward each step, feet turned out for direction and balance.
  • Timing: One rotation per measure, initiated around 1/5 (On1) or 2/6 (On2). Same footwork either timing.
  • Common mistake: Spotting the partner instead of the direction of travel; feet parallel instead of turned out.

Style Notes

Spot in the direction of travel, not on your partner, unless the lead changes direction. A showy way to clear a path or cross the floor.
