Who we are

Salsista is operated by Salsista (salsista.com). For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights below, contact us at [email protected]. Salsista (salsista.com) is the data controller responsible for your information.

What we collect, and when

• Your email address — only if you choose to sign up for our weekly email. We use it to send you the email you asked for, and nothing else.
• Your account & progress — only if you choose to create a free account. We store your email address (so you can sign in) and your practice progress and personal plan (so they follow you across devices). See “If you create an account” below.
• A cookie-choice setting — when you click Accept or Decline on our cookie notice, we store that choice in your browser’s local storage so we don’t ask you again.
• How the site is used — only if you accept our cookie notice. We use Microsoft Clarity to see anonymised, aggregate patterns (which pages are visited, where people click and scroll) so we can improve the site. See “How the site is used” below.
• Tutorial videos — if you press play on a tutorial, the video is loaded from YouTube, and Google may then set cookies. See the next section.

We do not run advertising trackers, and we do not sell your data to anyone.

Cookies and the YouTube tutorials

We don’t set advertising cookies. The only analytics cookies we use are for Microsoft Clarity, and only after you accept our cookie notice (see the next section). The only third-party video cookies come from YouTube, and only after you press play on a tutorial. Until you click play, no video and no YouTube cookie is loaded — we use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player for this reason. When you do play a video, your use is also subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.

How the site is used (Microsoft Clarity)

To understand how visitors use Salsista — which pages are popular, where people click, and where they get stuck — we use Microsoft Clarity. This only runs after you click Accept on our cookie notice; if you Decline, Clarity is never loaded and no analytics cookie is set. Clarity records anonymised, aggregate interaction data (such as clicks, scrolling, and page views) and does not use it to advertise to you. Because Microsoft is a US company, this data may be processed outside the European Union, under Microsoft’s safeguards. You can read more in Microsoft’s Privacy Statement. To withdraw your consent, clear this site’s data in your browser and choose Decline when the notice reappears.

The weekly email

If you sign up, your email address is handled by our email provider, Kit (ConvertKit), who store it on our behalf so we can send you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or by contacting us. We keep your address only for as long as you stay subscribed.

If you create an account

Creating an account is optional and free — it’s a way to save your progress, never a paywall. If you sign in (by a one-tap email link or with Google), we store:

• your email address, to identify your account;
• your practice progress (which moves you’ve marked known and your review schedule) and your personal plan, so they sync across your devices.

This data is stored on our behalf by Supabase, our database and authentication provider, on servers in the European Union (Ireland). Access is restricted so that only you can read or change your own data.

You can export or delete your account at any time from your account page. When you delete your account, your data is hidden immediately and permanently erased after 30 days (a short grace window so an accidental deletion can be undone by signing back in). You can also email us to do this for you.

Why we’re allowed to do this (legal basis)

Under the GDPR, we rely on your consent: you give us your email because you want the newsletter, you create an account because you want your progress saved, analytics run only if you accept the cookie notice, and YouTube content loads only when you choose to play it. You can withdraw that consent at any time — unsubscribe, delete your account, or choose Decline on the cookie notice.

Your rights

Wherever you live, and especially under the GDPR, you can ask us to:

• tell you what data we hold about you,
• correct it if it’s wrong,
• delete it,
• stop using it, or
• withdraw your consent (for example, unsubscribe).

Just email [email protected] and we’ll take care of it. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

Visitors from anywhere

Salsista is available internationally and we aim to meet the GDPR’s standard for everyone, wherever you are.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. Significant changes will be made clear on the site.
