What This Move Is
The lead leads a right/inside turn with the left hand primary while the right hand keeps the follow's left arm straight and vertical; the turn naturally folds that arm behind her back, about 270 (sometimes 360) degrees. The result is a stable hammerlock position you can dwell in or decorate before unwinding.
Key Points
- Lead: Let the turn create the fold — fingertip control only, never muscle the arm into place.
- Follow: Execute the turn and let the arm fold without resisting; soft connection.
- Timing: On1 turn on 5-6-7; On2 on 2/6. Same footwork.
- Common mistake: Forcing the arm behind the back (unsafe) instead of letting the turn do it; gripping with the thumb.
Style Notes
The hammerlock is its own position — many figures enter and exit through it. Always have an unwind ready; never leave the follow stuck.
