What This Move Is
From a cradle, instead of sending the follow back out, the lead settles beside her in a sweetheart hold — both facing the same way, arms crossed and held — and the couple walks the basic together in that shape. It's a travelling figure and a moment of connection at the same time.
Key Points
- Lead: Once you're side by side, lead with your walk, not your arms. Where your feet go, she follows; the held hands just keep you together.
- Follow: Settle into the hold and match the lead's stride. Keep your own bounce going — you're dancing beside him, not being carried.
- Timing: Travel on 1-2-3, tap 4, continue; exit by leading her back out to face you.
- Common mistake: The lead steering with the arms and pulling the follow off balance. Side-by-side travel is led from the body and the feet.
Style Notes
The beginner on-ramp to Shadow Position (B026). Sweetheart and cradle promenade name the same shape. A lovely "rest" figure — calm, connected, easy to lead on a slow passage.
