What This Move Is
A side rock danced solo: step out to the side (break), recover, close — the basic rock-step mechanic applied laterally instead of forward/back. A foundational building block that other shines decorate.
Key Points
- Solo: Rock on the break beat, recover, step; fully transfer your weight each time.
- Timing: Rock on the break beat (1 on On1, 2 on On2), recover, step.
- Common mistake: Stepping flat-footed or over-travelling so the weight doesn't fully transfer.
Style Notes
The "home base" of shine work — when you run out of ideas mid-shine, drop back to the side mambo and reset. Works at every tempo.
