Change of Place
Also known as: Changing places
The simplest place-swap in the book: leader and follower trade spots in a gentle half-arc while staying joined by one hand — the first pattern most beginners learn after the basic.
What This Move Is
A foundational figure where the two partners simply exchange positions, the leader guiding the follower across to his side while he moves to hers, all in a single joined hand. It is the gateway between the basic step and the cross-body lead.
Lead & Follow It
The leader gives a small, clear lead across the body and steps out of the way to open the path. The follower walks calmly to the new spot rather than turning — it is a change of place, not a turn.
How It Connects
It sets up the cross-body lead and almost every open-position pattern, so treat it as the hinge that links the basic to the rest of the vocabulary.
