Barrel Roll

Also known as: Barrel turn

Both joined hands carve a big horizontal circle — a 'barrel' — around the follower as she turns inside it, a large, sweeping rotation that fills space dramatically.

What This Move Is

An advanced two-hand turn where the leader rolls both joined hands in a large horizontal circle, the follower turning within the barrel the hands describe. The scale of the circle is what makes it feel grand.

Lead & Follow It

The leader keeps the barrel wide, level and continuous so nothing snags, leading from the shape rather than from force. The follower turns steadily inside the circle, keeping her frame round and her spotting honest.

The Thing Almost Everyone Gets Wrong

Letting the circle drop or shrink mid-roll, which drags the follower off balance. Keep the barrel big and level all the way around.

How It Connects

It enters from a two-hand hold and resolves to open position, a strong centrepiece between turn patterns.
